Weapons
Michael’s Favor
Forged from the fires of the Angel that birthed Gan-el, this blade channels Gan-el’s affinity for fire perfectly. However, the blade is limited in its power as it cannot conjure familiars the way that the Dragon Blade is capable of. Therefore Gan-el typically only uses this blade for sparring or for when he does not want to hurt his opponent.
Starbringer
A deadly spear with a wicked point. The spear is charged by sunlight and when fully charged can be thrown at the speed of light skewering with deadly force any unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of this spear. Starbringer channels Gan-el’s element of light but he hardly uses it in combat.
The Dragon’s Blade
Gan-el’s true weapon capable of conjuring powerful beasts wrought of flame to assist him in battle. The sword itself is formed by conjuring a massive Dragon which then rampages the battlefield after delivering the sword. Gan-el can use this weapon to channel both fire and light, making it his ideal weapon for combat, paired with the powerful phoenix and dragon familiars he is able to conjure, it is his most powerful weapon.
Bio
Gan-el is the immortal Guardian of Aria, also known as Michael’s Champion. He is a soft and gentle person, with his fire inspiring love, bravery, courage and determination in all that feel it. His demeanor is quite mellow usually, however he does have a burning fire within that is unleashed whenever he sees those being harmed or any injustices taking place. His fire has been quelled however ever since the unfortunate incident of Shal’aadra.
Gan-el has red scales covering his body, with veins filled with a burning fiery lava running in between. His face is framed by a lion’s mane but is very human and not at all draconic. Any who peers into that face feels a loving warmth, comfort and courage spreading from the fire within. However, he usually wears a hooded cloak most of the time and is quite taller than the average human standing at about 7 and a half feet tall. Being a creation of light he does not bleed and his body and mind are so resilient that he has been deemed immortal as he cannot be mortally wounded by normal means and he never falls ill physically.
Following the war between the Angels, Michael decided that there should be an immortal Guardian of Aria who would train and guide the other Guardians to victory. Therefore he took the earth upon which they stood and fashioned it into the shape of a demon in order to mock those ugly creatures, however, when he breathed his fire into this being and gave him life and named him Gan-el, he was not ugly but a beautiful sentinel whose sworn duty was to protect Aria against all evil.
For his long life he has only ever failed in his duties once and that was when Shal’aadra was chosen as Guardian of Aria. Gan-el loved her dearly in such a profound and fatherly way that he could not see her face evil and so chose to try to shelter and protect her from it by defeating the evil of that generation on his lonesome. However, as he was facing evil, the Archangels had their sights set on Shal’aadra and never being trained to combat evil, she was an easy target. Her very soul was seized and tainted by darkness and in the end she had to be killed by her own lover.
This traumatic experience shook Gan-el to his core and dulled that brilliant and blazing fire within, so that he is but a mere shadow of the person he used to be. Resigned never to feel that powerful attachment and love for another Guardian he left and turned a blind eye to the atrocities occurring in his absence. However, upon his return when he could not ignore the pleas for help any longer, he found someone that he could love almost as much as he loved Shal’aadra and that was Christian Fletcher.
Inspiration
Gan-el was always meant to be a bridge between humans and divinity. Having been created by the Angels in order to guide the humans, he shows everyone that the spiritual and the physical are more closely linked than they realize. Furthermore he is a mentor and guide to everyone and possesses quite a lot of knowledge of the history of Aria and all the magic contained within. So he does take inspiration from the likes of Gandalf or Treebeard from Lord of the Rings, however he plays a much more active role in the pursuit of good.
His elements are quite representative of himself, that powerful fire is that of Michael’s fire which can burn brilliantly and cause feelings of warmth, comfort, bravery, courage, happiness and warmth. It also shows his burning desire for goodness and truth. Light is an extension of that and as with others, Earth is a very grounding element, it shows his physical ties to the world of Aria whereas the element of Air shows the exact opposite, solidifying his role as a bridge between the spiritual and the physical. Lava his final and most niche element is a mixture of Earth and Fire into something that is neither. We take his earthly attachment and mix it with his burning fire to produce that passion to protect and destroy evil.
